Obituary of Winifred Sears Simpkins

Winnie Simpkins who always considered Tompkins County her home, passed away at the age of 86 on March 1, 2018.  Born in the Town of Ulysses, New York, she was the daughter of the late Glenn and Mary(Wilkin) Sears.

Winnie graduated from Ithaca High School.  She was an executive secretary with General Electric for 35 years.  A career that took her to Pennsylvania and then on to Maryland.  After retiring from GE, Winnie moved back to Finger Lakes Region to be close to family and to provide assistance and caring to relatives.  She loved feeding the birds, nurturing huge flower beds, and even feeding the squirrels.  Christmas time was a month long baking extravaganza which spoiled everyone with boxes of baked goodies.

Cherishing her memory are her sister Dorothy Sears, nephew Tom Lilly and wife Cindy, niece Berniece Hower and husband Doug, niece Mary Wheaton and husband Fred, niece Nancy Dunham, and many more.

Winnie was predeceased by her husband John; sisters Mildred, Rena, Marjorie, and Edith; and brothers Charlie and Roy.

Special gratitude goes to nephew Tom Lilly and wife Cindy for all their generous time, effort, and loving support.

A memorial service for Winnie will be held on Thursday March 29 at the American Legion Post 770 in Trumansburg, NY; starting at 11 am.
