John Cooper of Wood Road, Freeville, died Friday February 3, 2023 at Ithaca, NY. The son of the late John and Florence Hamilton Cooper, John was born January 22, 1947 in Ithaca, NY. John attended Dryden High School and then served in the US Army, first in the 101st Airborne Division in Vietnam and then the 8th Airborne in Germany. On December 16, 1967 he married the former Edith Anderson. He had been employed by SCM and Cargill.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by son J James (Melissa) Cooper of Groton, Lynn Rooney and Brenda Cooper both of Freeville. Grandchildren, Leonard (Caysea) Cooper of Kentucky, Nathaniel (Jennifer) Fenner of Homer, Nadine Fuller of Groton, Benjamin (Mikayla) Rooney of Freeville. Great Grandchildren, Loralie Cooper, Deklyn Cooper, Evan Greene, Hunter Towers, Charles Fenner, Jackson Fuller, Ryleigh Fuller, Liam Rooney, and Lilian Rooney. Siblings, Mabel (Jewett) Tarbox, Clara (Phil) Allen, and Peter Cooper. Sisters-in-law, BArbara Cooper, Dora Cooper, Lena Anderson, Elizabeth Croke. Brothers-in-law. Steve Maki and Wayne (Deb) Vanderpool.
In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by siblings, Jessie Crockford, Birl Cooper, George Cooper, Frank Cooper, Albert Cooper. Brother-in-law, Dean Anderson, James Croke, Milton Crockford. Sisters-in-law, Cindy Cooper, Lois Maki, and Lila Cooper. Also his in-laws, Ernest Anderson, Elsie Matthews Anderson Vanderpool and step father-in-law Leonard Vanderpool.
Per John's wishes there will be no services or calling hours.
