Obituary of Donald F Chandler, Sr.

Donald F Chandler Sr, former President and CEO of Precision Filters, died July 23, 2021. Donald Francis Chandler was born on April 23, 1930, in Birmingham, Alabama. He was the son of entrepreneur Asa Chandler Sr. and his wife Evelyn Chandler. He had two brothers, Asa Chandler Jr. and John Clark Chandler, and two sisters, Betty Carol Webb and Patricia Wilkie, the only surviving sibling. Mr. Chandler married Doris Chandler in 1954 and is survived by their children: son, Donald Francis Chandler Jr. and daughters, Dawn Lynette Chandler-Roslansky (Patrick) and Jacklyn Renee Chandler. He is also survived by his four grandchildren, Michael Roslansky, Stephanie Roslansky, Cammarron Mindieta and Palmer Lynn. In 1988, Mr. Chandler married Maria Bachich, longtime friend and fellow bird and music enthusiast. Mr. Chandler served in the Air Force soon after World War II. He attended the University of Maryland and received a degree in Electrical Engineering. He went on to receive a Master's degree in Mathematics at the University of Pennsylvania. Mr. Chandler and his family moved to Ithaca, NY in 1967 where he worked for the electrical engineering firm Ithaco for seven years before he and his business partner Paul Costantini founded Precision Filters Inc. in 1975. Don was the driving force behind the development of critical electronic instrumentation for the Navy, Army, NASA and many Fortune 500 companies for aerospace, transportation, energy, defense and other markets, and its products are sold throughout the world. Precision Filters continues to be a success to this day. Mr. Chandler was a generous and caring man in his private life who helped many people. He also loved nature and has been a contributor to The Nature Conservancy and several environmental projects. He also was a contributor to The Metropolitan Opera House and had a lifelong love of classical music and the arts. Mr. Chandler died peacefully at The Bridges of Cornell Heights in the company of his loving family at 10:45 pm on Friday, July 23, 2021. Don touched many lives and will be greatly missed. The Chandler family would like to express their sincere gratitude to the staff at Bridges at Cornell Heights for the exceptional care provided to their father over the years. A celebration of life will be held Sunday, August 1, 2021, between 3 and 7 pm at La Tourelle Hotel and Bistro in Ithaca.
