Obituary of Shirley Ann Desmond

Shirley Ann Desmond passed away peacefully surrounded by her family on May 3, 2022 at her daughter’s home in Marathon, NY. A private memorial service is being planned at a later time. Shirley was born in Auburn, NY to Francis Foster and Katherine (Bailey) Foster on December 28, 1946. She worked for many years as a Corrections Officer in Broome and Cortland Counties, retiring as a Sergeant. After retiring her and her husband would spend their winters in Florida and summers in New York. She enjoyed taking care of her flowerbeds, reading, and playing cards with family and friends. She cherished her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Shirley is survived by her husband of 46 years, Edwin Desmond of Zephyrhills, Florida, daughters Nancy (Gary) Billings of Marathon, NY, Pamela Boyce of Lisle, NY, son John (Noelle) Ripley of North Carolina, Step-children Eugene (Vicki) Desmond of Lisle, NY, John Desmond of Lisle, NY, Judy (Randy) Gleazen of Whitney Point, NY, Betty Benfer of Bear Mountain, NY, sisters June Messina of Saratoga Springs, NY, Barbara Coon of Homer, NY, Connie Birmingham of Orehill, CA, and a special friend Sharon Lawless of Zephyrhills, FL. She is predeceased in death by her son Edwin Desmond, Son-in-law, Todd Boyce, brothers William, Richard, and Robert Foster, as well as special friends Linda VanSteenburg and Beverly Votra. Her ashes will be joined with her son Edwin and dogs Bo Bear and Jake. The family would like to thank Hospicare and Pallative Services for their care and kindness.
