Obituary of Robert C. Foster
Robert Claude Foster passed away peacefully on April 8, 2017 surrounded by his family after a courageous battle with esophageal cancer; having previously won his battle with colon cancer. Robert was born in Cortland, NY on 11/17/1935 and spent his childhood on the family farm in Marathon, NY. He led an interesting life having worked at a variety of different professions including; farming, working on Clark’s seed farm, as a member of Teamster Union working for Dairylea and Hegeman’s Dairy Plants, Owasco Meats in Moravia, and for many years as a self employed butcher in the meat industry. His favorite vocation by far was selling produce; first on Route 38 in Freeville, and then for over 20 years on the corner of Route 34 and Brickyard Road in Lansing, where he had many regular customers. He always looked forward to the middle of June when the strawberries were out and he could start selling produce again.
He was pre-deceased by his parents, Lester and Helen (Carlson) Foster, twin infant sons, Robert and Francis, a daughter, Dorla, and his brother George.
He is survived by his sister, Ruth Luina, son Robert (Grace) Foster, daughters Jackie (Mike) Thomas, and Crystal (Marty) Belton. Grandchildren; Steven, Theresa, Natasha, Betsy, Samantha, RJ, Duke, and Katee. Great grandchildren; Bristol, Hunter, Tavia, Trillium, and Harmon.
A celebration of his life will be held later this spring.
