Obituary of Peter Leo Alano
Peter Leo Alano was born 11/23/54 in Rochester, N.Y. He died peacefully in his home on 10/11/17.
He is predeceased by his father Ralph, and his sister Anita Alano. Pete is survived by his children Jack and Bridget Alano and his wife Peggy Conolly-Alano, his mother Isabel Alano, brother Louis Alano/wife Theresa Alano, and brother in law Merle Jantz.
Pete and Peggy moved to the Finger Lakes twenty years ago when Pete courageously quit a good paying job to pursue a less lucrative, more rewarding career working with disabled adults. His consistent kindness, acceptance, and dedication to his clients was felt by all who worked with him. Pete’s defining characteristic was integrity. His work ethic was exemplary. He had a light, humorous heart that pervaded all his endeavors and a confidence and tenacity that he attributed to his successful years as a high school wrestler. He was rich in that his only regret in life was that he wasn’t able to see his children to adulthood. The unwavering joy they brought him was reciprocated with profound love and pride which will carry them to adulthood and beyond. Every day Pete was surprised by the sheer happiness he found in being their father.
Books and music were his greatest companions. Pete’s lifelong search for truth was traversed through recondite writings, solitude, and contemplation. Equally he loved festivals, metropolitan cities, and observing human nature. From Tchaikovsky to Zappa, to Bowie, Pete found immense pleasure in music and was very knowledgeable about many genres of performing arts. He played a mean sax, a nimble guitar, and always had a song in his heart and on his lips.
