Hermann Moratz, retired Vice President, Engineering, Pall Trinity Micro Corporation and author of the WWII memoir, And Only The Horses Wore No Uniforms, has passed away following a brief illness. He was 95.
A German aviator during WWII, Hermann emigrated to Brazil following the war and subsequently to the United States in 1957. A prisoner of war, he escaped from a Russian work camp and, with the assistance of an American GI, used his training and wits to evade re-capture by the Russians until such time as he was able to rejoin his parents in Berlin. There, he studied engineering and worked for Siemens until learning that the Brazilian government was offering free passage to Brazil for German engineers seeking employment with Brazilian companies.
At Mercedes-Benz do Brasil S/A he met Anna Wagner, who would become his wife of 61 years. She was working as secretary to the technical director at Mercedes-Benz and Hermann as production preparation specialist. The couple applied for immigration to the USA and were bound for Los Angeles a year later where Anna worked for Dun and Bradstreet and Hermann as an engineer for ITE Circuit Breaker Company. They proudly became American citizens in 1962.
A home, along with son William Christopher and daughter Karen, completed Anna and Hermann's own special version of the American Dream.
