Charles Hoover was one of my all-time favorite people. I met him about 50 years ago in Virginia as my father knew him and he was an organist. We later became friends on our own - in Los Altos where he and I slept on the floor in different bedrooms before their furniture arrived (and before I had lodging). He helped me run some statistics for my doctoral dissertation. We attended various concerts and he and Mildred were always wonderful to visit. He graciously hosted Susan and me during our visit to Ithaca to see him several years ago. We watched the vp debate with Sarah Palin in amusement and horror and he took us on a local hike, walker and all. He knew my father's family and gave me insights into my family history. So gifted, a true Renaissance Man who was always inspiring, amazing and giving. One of a kind, really. He will be greatly missed but we are all so much richer to have known him.
