Obituary of Charles R. Hoover
Please share a memory of Charles to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
On Sunday, November 27, 2016 Charles Rudolph Hoover, 99, passed away peacefully at his home in Ithaca, NY.
Charles was born in Rochester, MN to Edwin and Emma Hoover on October 5, 1917. He was raised in Basin, WY, where he grew up across the street from Mildred Burns. After reconnecting years later, he and Mildred were married on September 10, 1946 in Washington, DC. He was a veteran of WWII and served in the Army in the South Pacific as part of the Signal Corps. After the war, he graduated from George Washington University in 1951 with a degree in electrical engineering. He spent his professional life working on a variety of national defense projects as a systems engineer. He was always an active member of his church communities, and particularly enjoyed being a part of the handbell choir at Dulin United Methodist Church in Falls Church, VA. Most recently he was a committed member of the congregation at Dryden United Methodist Church. Charles was a kind, determined, generous, and inquisitive man. He opened his heart and his home to many, and was well-loved by all who met him.
Charles is preceded in death by his wife, Mildred. He is survived by his children, Eleanor (Paul) and Chad (Ann); his grandchildren, Pete (Kathy), Tori (Joe), Lara (Danso), Clair (Will), Nils, Gwen (Crawford), Victor, and Erin; and his great-grandchildren, Harry, Josie, Cate, Serena, Melanie, Joseph, and Esther.
A memorial service will be held at a later date for family and friends. Fond memories, good stories, and heartfelt thoughts may be shared online at www.ithacacremationservice.com. Donations in his honor to the American Heart Association and Dryden United Methodist Church are appreciated. The family wishes to extend our sincere thanks to Classen Home Health Associates and Hospicare of Ithaca for their assistance in his last days.
